The Food Pyramid Is Dead… and It’s About Time

The Food Pyramid Is Dead… and It’s About Time

They just released the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and if you’ve been around long enough to remember the old food pyramid, you already know why this matters.

That pyramid told people to base their diet on grains, keep fat low, and “watch your calories.”
And what did we get?

More obesity. More type 2 diabetes. More insulin resistance. More meds. More confusion. More people “doing everything right” and still feeling like garbage.

So when I see an update that finally starts moving in the direction of metabolic reality, I pay attention.

And yes—there’s progress here.

Not perfect. Not complete. But progress.

My take:

The government finally made a real improvement to the food pyramid—and that’s a major shift in the right direction. But it’s still wrong, and honestly, the government should get out of the business of giving nutrition advice.

If you want something more practical (and more realistic for real life), use our food pyramids as a quick reference for the major nutrition approaches you’ll hear about—AIP, Carnivore, Keto, NDK, Paleo, and GAPS—so you actually know what people mean when they say them.

One important note: these aren’t “one-size-fits-all” rules—think of them as a starting point to understand the framework, then keep learning and work with a qualified healthcare professional to dial in what fits you.
